Leaving Natal

Of course you wished this moment would never come....but in case you do have to leave… it is useful to have knowledge about a couple of things.

Departure hall

Coming from the highway you will soon see the white building of the 'Augusto Severo International Airport' in front of you.

If you arrive by taxi they will stop in front of the departure/arrival hall. When you drive by car it’s of course possible to have a brief stop to unload your baggage near the entrance. Trolleys are available for free.

If you arrive by bus, you will be guided to a separate parking area which is reserved next to the general car park.

If you want to stay a little bit longer at the airport you can park your car in the paid parking area. This is right in front of the departure/arrival hall. It only takes a short 50 meters walk to the entrance of the hall.

Entering the parking area you drive passed the ticket booth and you will receive a parking ticket. On departure you have to pay (only in Real!) at the exit ticket booth in front of the barrier. So, it is wise to have some Brazilian money with you.

Entering the departure/arrival hall you will find the check-in desks on the right side of the building. At the rear-end, you will find the check-in-desk for charter flights. Because the airport is reasonably small, everything is quite easy to find.

Make sure the maximum weight of your luggage is somewhat equivalent to the maximum allowed. Often the Brazilian custom officers are not that difficult, but… .. it depends on the mood (a bit unpredictable…). The same applies to the mandatory label on your hand luggage. Nowadays they are stricter about it. You have to collect the label at the check-in -desk.

When the baggage has been checked-in and dropped off there are sufficient facilities in the hall for a snack and a drink and possibilities to buy your last souvenirs. For more information, also look at the Facilities-page on our website.

Gol and Webjet

Then finally comes that inevitable moment… you do have to go through customs and enter the waiting hall before departure. The entrance is located on the 1st floor. Go up the escalators, turn left and right in the centre of the building is the entrance. When all hand luggage has been checked and approved you have to pass customs to collect your stamp in your passport and you DO HAVE TO return your copy of the Arrival / Departure Card (see also: Arrival in Natal).

Once you’re through the customs there is limited facility to eat, drink and shop.

We advise you, if you still want to buy some things, do it before you go through customs. However, be aware of the (international) liquidslimitations to take on board with you. They are not allowed passing the customs and entering the waiting hall.

Finally when the 'call' for 'boarding' is given, you just enter the 'gate', walk through the pedestrian bridge and on boarding the plane you will be directed to your seat.

The last glimpse…

If you like to catch the last glimpse of Natal and its unforgettable beaches, hotels, restaurants, etc. it’s nice to know the plane almost always departs in south-eastern direction. Therefore most of its beautiful views from the coastline and the city are best seen from the left side of the plane.

Once you're airborne, the impressive coastline of Brazil slowly fades away. Then it is a matter of a 6 to 8-hour flight before you safely arrive in Lisbon, Madrid, London, Amsterdam or other European destinations.

Have a good flight!!
